We had an amazing time with Jan biking through the Wachau Valley! Tour is well thought-out - we met at a very reasonable hour (unlike many other tours), took the subway and train together to a garage where the bikes were stored. The scenery here is amazing!! At the first winery we were surprised how much wine they gave us to try and we actually ended up buying some to bring home. Pack light because this a great place to get wine and other things like apricot liqueur and jams. Lunch was great and quick - we even had time to run up to the castle ruins which was an amazing view but I do think we missed out on some shopping. The second winery is beautiful and though we liked the wine less than the first stop, it was still a great stop! The biking is pretty leisurely, and mostly on protected bike lanes. We definitely felt safe the entire time. Our group was great and pretty small (~8) so we got to know everyone and really just had the best day. We were a little early so we had time to stop for ice cream on the way back, too! Special shout out to Jan who was an amazing guide! He is so intelligent, informed, and curious - the absolute best traits in someone leading you for the day.
From riding the train to bike riding to wine tasting everything was great and most definitely worth the price. Tomas was a fantastic guide and I'd recommend the experience to anyone who likes traveling and drinking wine. It was a lot of fun.
We can't imagine a lovelier way to explore the Danube than by cycling in the sun and drinking wine! The ride was around 26km which was quite comfortable. Our group was only 12 people which was a nice number and our guide Stefan spent the whole day with us and made it very enjoyable. We definitely recommend!
Hugo was a wonderful guide- friendly and personable, but also completely on the ball. The day was delightful and ran completely smoothly.
Amazing! Our guide, Seline, was really nice. The route was beatiful and easy to bike. The day was beatiful!
Iolo was the greatest tour guide, very knowledgeable and personable. Biking through the Wachau Valley was an incredible experience. You won’t be disappointed!!!
We were really excited for this event but were disappointed in the overall experience. I had watched the video and for us it did not go as the video shows. I will clarify before continuing the review that we are not uber athletes but are in active healthy condition. We started with a nice 40 min drive and conversation with our guide, Marco, to a town in the Wachau Valley and retrieving the bikes which was straight forward. The issue started with the bikes and the poor quality for the amount of riding we were to do. The guide and the two other people on the trip had better traction bikes as did my husband. We were in the gears he recommended but they were so hard to peddle. The guide paced the trip zooming off as if a race not a casual ride in the vineyards. They had to wait for us often and always patronizingly said are you doing ok. I know it was the bikes because when I finally switched with my husband I was no longer last. At one stop our guide told the wine maker why we were late, laughing and in German, but I speak German and called them on their remarks about us. Not professional! The guide never apologized and even when mentioned the bikes he said the higher end ones are used for private tours. Ok we had just paid over 400 to be told were on a second tier trip...? The area is beautiful and the wines are simple but interesting to try. To note this trip, run thru Vienna Explorer Co., is 70 bike riding and the rest wine tasting lunch and a 1/2 hour hike to castle ruinsvery pretty view. Plus we were constantly rushed and never wandered the town like the video trying schnapps. Also, wish we could have had more information along the ride with maybe headsets for hearing commentary of the wine details as we rode.
I highly recommend this trip. Ivan was an awesome guide. His knowledge of the wines of this region was amazing! There were 7 of us on the trip and even the non-wine drinkers had lots of fun. The ride was at a leisurely pace. Riding bikes along a path with the Danube on one side and terraced hills of grapevines on the other was beautiful!!
My husband and I really enjoyed our tour with James and our group of 15. We had a great time riding through the picturesque Wachau Valley, exploring a medieval small town, learning about and tasting fine wines, making new friends and acquaintances from all over the world, and simply riding through the beautiful countryside along the Danube river. This tour is for teens through adults of all ages and is kept at a reasonable pace. I would highly recommend this tour!
This tour was amazing! It was by far my favorite thing that we did on our trip. The valley is beautiful, the wine was great, the tour guide was knowledgeable. I can't say enough good things! We ended up with a really fun group and had the best time exploring the area. I would absolutely recommend this tour-you will not regret it!
My husband and I absolutely loved our tour through Wachau valley with Ivan as our guide- he is extremely knowledgeable about wine and did a wonderful job answering all of our questions. He the valley and the local vineyards very well so he is able to add a personal flair to the tour. The bikes and helmets were well maintained. I would recommend have biking experience for this tour, you cover a lot of ground quickly, not for novices. It is a very full day, so I wouldn't recommend scheduling anything before or after this tour so that you can really enjoy your time in the Wachau valley and not have to rush- It's too busy to hurry through!
