Uw tour begint bij Battery Park, waar u uitleg krijgt voor de komende bezoeken door op ontdekkingstocht te gaan langs de gedenktekens in het park. Deze krijgen zelden de aandacht die ze verdienen doordat bezoekers zich naar de veerboot haasten. Breng wat tijd door bij het Castle Clinton National Monument, Pier A Harbor House, het American Merchant Mariner's Memorial, de Sphere, en het New York Korean War Veteran's Memorial.
Vervolgens gaat u naar Liberty Island. Dankzij prioriteit bij het instappen krijgt u de beste plaatsen op de veerboot en aangezien u zo vroeg vertrekt (vaak met de eerste veerboot, afhankelijk van de tijd van het jaar), komt u eerder dan de massa aan bij het Vrijheidsbeeld. Eenmaal aangekomen kunt u genieten van het uitzicht op de stad en met een tour met gids naar de voet gaan, zodat u dichter bij Lady Liberty komt dan tijdens een normaal bezoek.
Hier geeft uw gids uitleg over het belangrijkste symbool van de stad. Lady Liberty was een geschenk van Frankrijk aan de VS en werd ontworpen door de Franse toparchitecten, waaronder Gustav Eiffel (van de beroemde toren in Parijs), maar ze werd niet zo positief ontvangen als u misschien zou denken. U komt alles te weten over de strijd die ervoor nodig was om haar daar te krijgen en hoe de inwoners van New York haar uiteindelijk in hun hart sloten.
Daarna gaat u weer terug naar de veerboot om naar Ellis Island te gaan waar u in de voetsporen van 12 miljoen immigranten treedt. Van uw gids leert u meer over het lange immigratieproces en loopt u op de Stairs of Separation om de twee heel verschillende namen van het eiland te begrijpen: 'The Island of Hope' en 'The Island of Tears'. U verkent de indrukwekkende collectie interactieve displays van het museum. Neem de gelegenheid uw gids vragen te stellen voor het einde van de tour. U kunt nog iets langer blijven als u wilt, of teruggaan naar de veerboot en met uw gids terug naar Manhattan gaan.
Dankzij de kleine groepen van maximaal 20 personen en de vroege veerboten naar de eilanden is dit doorgaans een rustige en ontspannen tour zonder het gedoe van een gemiddeld bezoek. En met een deskundige gids bij de hand leert u vast wat nieuws, zodat de ervaring u meer oplevert dan wanneer u op eigen gelegenheid deze sites bezoekt.

It was a drizzly, overcast morning when we headed to Liberty Island. We deliberately booked an early trip, 8.30am, knowing that with jet lag we would all be up! This turned out to be a good decision, with the queues, boat crossing and island pretty quiet. Rob our guide was excellent. His training as a classical actor certainly shone through, particularly in his interaction with the children in our group of 16. Everything ran like clockwork, although it would have been nice to have spent more time in the new Liberty museum. That aside I would highly recommend the trip.

The tour of the Statue of Liberty was very good with informative talk by the guide. The Ellis Island part of the tour was very disappointing because the guide spent much too much time standing in one place repeating the same info when we could have been touring and seeing the facility in more depth.

Wow! What an unbelievable tour about such important components of American history.I visited Lady Liberty 30 years ago and I am so happy I did this tour with my own family now.Our tour guide Alice is so incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about American history. Alice is extremely diplomatic and tactful. I enjoyed seeing how much she inspired all the young girls (including my daughter) who were on the tour. I would not exclude any detail that Alice gave us. I really felt we got a very accurate sense of what it was like to come from another country to America, filled with hope.I felt pride in my country and gratefulness that we have tour guides like Alice who emulate that same pride. We definitely recommend this tour. Hopefully you will be on the A Team with Alice.
