Over deze activiteit
Your tour will be starting when you get picked up at 3:30 pm from your hotel in Colombo. Your first stop will be a little tea shop customised almost entirely by locals. Here you will be able to get your first taste of basic Sri Lankan fare in the form of a coconut rotti and plain tea (tea with no milk or cream).
You will then be moving on to the Kolpetty Market. It has been a mainstay for many decades, with an eclectic mix of sellers both local and migrant. The ground floor has a restaurant, shops selling souvenirs and other knick knacks and etc. The first and second floor is dedicated to fresh produce, and meat and fish; in that order. The third and final floor is more interesting and cleaner; with a few workers carrying crates here and there, some textiles stores, a place that will maintain your ship if you've have one, a Chinese trading centre, grocery stores, and two fantastic supermarkets. Make sure to visit the Handicrafts store outside while you're there, as it’s chock full of beautiful carvings and souvenirs.
After this, you will be visiting the Malwatte Road Street Market at Colombo Fort. You will be walking past little street stalls hawking their wares in loud voices. You can ask your guide for a quick halt at any of the stalls if they catch your fancy. Your guide will translate if you have any questions to ask or items to purchase. Then you will be taken to a set of twin kiosks called the Achcharu Hut and Juice Hut. Achcharu is made of local fruits preserved with vinegar, sugar and salt. You will be trying out this delicious combination with a fresh fruit juice from the Juice Hut.
Your next stop between 5:00pm to 5:30pm will be the famous Galle Face Green; located along the strand of one of Colombo's most bewitching beaches. You will be sampling local specialities such as egg hoppers, normal hoppers, tempered kadala, prawn vadé and parippu vadé in the process of a street food walk along the Green.
At 6:00pm you will be leaving Galle Face for the restaurant Nana's. Here you will dine on the famous Sri Lankan Kottu. This consists of tempered pieces of Parata, mixed with vegetables, and/or meat and eggs; and dripping with delicious spices as sauces. You will be able to watch the Kottu being made and can order a number of flavour variants.
You will complete your tour by 7:00pm with your stomach filled to the brim; and will be dropped off back at your hotel.
