02 Nights Elephant Research & Conservation Expedition in Wasgamuwa

Day 01 - Pick up from Colombo hotel and transfer to Wasgamuwa – Approximately 04 hours drive.
• Arrive in Wasgamuwa by noon in time for lunch and check in to Elephant conservation field house near Wasgamuwa National Park. You will be served with a freshly cooked Sri Lankan rice and curry lunch which consists of local vegetables. After a brief rest, you will be given a briefing about the experience and what to expect before heading to the first walk near Wasgamuwa tank which borders Wasgamuwa national park to observe Elephants if they are present and while waiting for the Elephants you would be able to see many varieties of birds at the lake bund. You will be then taken in to a Tree top watch hut to see how the humans and Elephants using the same corridor for movements and while waiting for the Elephants to arrive you would see varieties of birds. As the dusk arrives you would hear the sounds of nocturnal species.

Arrive at the field house, freshen up and sit for dinner followed by a discussion of day’s experience with the inhouse team before retiring to bed by 10 PM.

Day 02 - Wake up call at 5.30 AM followed by a Tea/Coffee before heading to the sunrise rock along the lake bund to observe wildlife eco systems and meet the village locals to understand village activities and local culture.

After a hearty breakfast at the field house, go to Orange groves and village to observe orange plantation that have been set up to act as elephant deterrents while providing the villagers with a supplementary income. Listen to the villager’s stories about how the orange trees are helping them to coexist with elephants. Help to gather data on these projects including assessing the growth, vigor and status of citrus groves and the successful l colonization of beehives. This is a very good opportunity to learn about Human-Elephant conflict.

Freshen up at the field house before enjoying a home cooked lunch.
• In the afternoon, leave on a Jeep Safari to Wasgamuwa National Park. Observe elephants and other wildlife in the park while you collect data for the Elephant ID Catalogue.

Arrive at the field house, freshen up and sit for dinner followed by a discussion of day’s experience with the inhouse team before retiring to bed by 10 PM.

Day 03 - Wake up early morning and do the sunrise walk along the lake bund to observe local wildlife and villages before the breakfast at the field house and your Elephant expedition in Wasgamuwa comes to an end. Say good bye to the team at the field house and depart from Wasgamuwa.
• Transfer back to Colombo – Approximately 3 hours drive
