Citadel of Sigariya Private Cycling Tour

Meet a cycling guide at your hotel in Sigiriya for 8am departure, then start by getting fitted with a mountain bike and helmet. The route will take you through the countryside, following bumpy dirt tracks into forests that are habitat for monkeys and deer. 

As you ride to the Citadel of Sigariya, learn about the history of the fortress and the kingdom of Kasyappa, who lived in the 5th century AD. You may also be able to spot an occasional ruin along the way, the crumbled remains of Kashyappa's kingdom, with the option to stop and explore these lesser-known destinations. 

Upon arrival at the Citadel of Sigariya, climb a staircase to a plateau with giant lion paws that form the entrance arch to the fortress itself. It is believed that during the time of King Kasyappa, the entire rock was shaped into a lion, with just a few traces remaining. 

As you climb up into the fortress you will find architectural marvels that the king incorporated into his fortress, including ponds with pipe-borne water, gardens, and much more. See rock paintings with beautifully detailed images created 1,500 years ago, and visit 'Mirror Wall,' a parapet that was made with highly-polished rock.

Following your time at the Citadel of Sigiriya, begin the return trip to your hotel, where this tour concludes at 11am.
